After gathering valuable input from the community this summer on Austin’s Our Future 35 project, the City invites residents to the September Open House to meet the project team and view the latest cap and stitch Vision Plan. The updated concepts incorporate the public’s feedback on what amenities could be featured on the new reimagined spaces over I-35. The event is free and open to the public.
- Date: Saturday, Sept. 28
- Time: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Location: Canopy Austin, 916 Springdale Road
Our Future 35 is a once-in-a-generation project in collaboration with the Texas Department of Transportation’s I-35 Capital Express Central project. Because TxDOT plans to lower parts of I-35 between Lady Bird Lake and Airport Boulevard, the City aims to build caps and stitches over those lowered sections to connect East and West Austin.
This summer the city held 29 community tabling events and an Open House in May to inform the public about the Cap and Stitch program and survey. More than 1,700 responses were submitted with almost 80% of respondents agreeing with the project’s draft vision, mission and goals. The top amenities chosen to be featured on the caps and stitches included recreational lawn space, food vending, event space and public art.
The September Open House is the final public presentation of the project before City Council considers the Vision Plan adoption. To learn more about the project, visit OurFuture35.com.
