What: The Memorial United Methodist Church here in Windsor Park has reached out to WPNA seeking Volunteers to participate in a Habitat for Humanity build. If you have never done this, it means you can have a hand in building a house. It sounds daunting but you won’t be asked to do anything you’re not capable of doing. I’ve participated in a number of these myself. There are experts there to answer questions and guide you.
When: May 17th Time: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM – Please arrive by 7:45 AM to check-in. Allow extra time to locate parking.
Location: 1144 Poquito Street Unit B
Tasks: Tasks will vary depending on the build schedule’s progress. Generally, you can expect to work on activities such as carpentry, painting, landscaping, and more.
Parking: Carpooling or Ride-Share: Strongly encouraged due to limited parking. Street Parking: Available but limited. Important: Do not park directly in front of the build site. This area must remain clear for loading, unloading, and emergency vehicles.
Lunch: Austin Habitat does not provide lunch. Please bring your own meal to enjoy on-site during the 11:30 AM lunch break. Many groups arrange their own catering, so check with your team leader for plans. Volunteers are welcome to bring folding chairs for added comfort during lunch.
What to Wear and Bring: Clothing: Wear attire suitable for a construction site (long pants and long sleeves are recommended). Footwear: Thick-soled, close-toed shoes are required for safety. Additional Items: Bring a reusable drinking container and your can-do attitude.
Inclement Weather Policy: We work rain or shine! If weather conditions become extreme or unsafe, we will notify you on the morning of your volunteer day. In such cases, the project may be rescheduled or canceled.
Age Policy: All volunteers must be 16 years or older. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult (21+ years old) who directly supervises them.
